Tonight we’re featuring two very special musicians from the world of modern Brazilian popular music: Jhon Douglas de Vilhena and Raul Misturada.
Videoclip Jhon Douglas
First set: Launching of the album "Jhon Douglas de Vilhena":
In the five tracks that make up this album, ‘Jhon Douglas de Vilhena’, Jhon Douglas offers us his perspective on himself, with the intimacy of someone gazing at their own cavities in a mirror above the sink.
The cavity inside the mouth, the space that holds the presence of what once was and yet remains: a tooth, a canal, a river, a city. How many ‘origins’ constitute a presence?
If everyone comes from somewhere (and carries it within them wherever they go), for Jhon Douglas, that place is Vilhena: a city in the state of Rondônia, in the Brazilian hinterland, where he was born and to which he returns with us on this album, as a metaphorical gesture. Vilhena is a real city and a mirage that takes shape amidst skate videos, internet cafés, river baths and dusty highways.
Jhon Douglas sings of the exhaustion brought on by expectations, the madness of a generation for whom performance has become a necessity of life, the sweet mirage of the idea of ‘going home’, the souring of relationships, and the hope that keeps beating on, despite the pain. This world has flavour – and, more than simply pleasing the palate, what really matters is being able to taste it.
NED
