Ivan Laranjeiro Trio is coming to Munganga to present their very first album: A Portrayal of the Latin Guitar. This album proposes a unifying role of the Latin Guitar by melting Afro-Cuban and Brazilian repertoire. In order to modernize the sound of the nylon string guitar, the double bass of Lautaro Vergara and drums of Enrico Locci are added.
This trio plays in the borders of genres: the classical influence of the solo guitar pieces and bow-played double bass can be heard. The jazz influence of harmony, improvisation and theme-structured pieces as well. But this happens at the same time that the traditional rhythms and grooves are not only preserved and respected but are actually the starting-point of the project. This trio is a product of the multiculturality of Rotterdam, which sees the opportunity to unify such rich diversity through music.
The band consists of: Ivan Laranjeiro - the person who holds the vision of the project. From Portugal, he arrived in Rotterdam 5 years ago to study Latin Music at Codarts, place where he is finishing his masters.
Being a guitar wonderer, was never able to fully identify with any musical tradition. But is such identity crisis that allows him to pursue a more artistic and creative path.
Lautaro Vergara - from Buenos Aires (Argentina), he moved to Rotterdam to deepen his classical double bass skills. Together with his background in popular music, he takes a creative approach to the double bass playing in such an intimate and vulnerable formation.
Enrico Locci - born in Cagliari (Italy) and based in Rotterdam, is the drummer and percussionist of the project. His Jazz and Latin backgrounds find space between the Classic Guitar and Double Bass lines of the Trio’s repertoire. The drums and the percussion comment and fill the spaces left by the music, giving a solid rhythmical foundation to the montunos and a lyrical remark to the bolero’s harmonies.
