The famous percussionist/composer Edmundo Carneiro (Tania Maria, Baden Powell and many others) is in the country and together with Kees Gelderblom [guitarist] and Ana Beck [Vocals] will pay tribute to Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes.

An atmospheric and swinging evening!

Text by Ana de Hollanda (singer, songwriter and former Minister of Culture of Brazil):

“Amsterdam will host one of the most representative concerts of Brazilian popular music, which lived its heyday between the revolutionary Bossa Nova movement, with its icons João Gilberto, Tom Jobim and Vinícius de Moraes, and the Afro-sambas that were born from the meeting of same poet Vinícius de Moraes with the composer and guitarist Baden Powell.

In the 1960s, bossa nova was already running out as a renewing style. Vinícius, less and less interested in the palace life of diplomacy and more fond of the charms of Brazilian music, found in Baden Powell the ideal partner to explore the African roots, so deeply rooted in Brazilian culture: inspired by the sambas-de-roda of Bahia, of candomblé and berimbau touches, composed masterpieces that will be presented next September 10 at Teatro Munganga.

The musical formation is perfect for the style, performed by a trio of exceptional quality formed by the Brazilian percussionist Edmundo Carneiro, the versatile Dutch guitarist Kess Gelderblom and, as guest vocalist, the excellent Brazilian singer Ana Beck”.
