Zorzal (bird: Song Thrush) is a Son Huasteco trio, performing Mexican traditional
folklore music from the north-east region of Mexico denominated Huasteca.

Based in Amsterdam and founded in 2023, they established themselves as the first active ensemble in Europe to present the so-called Huapango or Son Huasteco to a wide range of
audiences.

The genre is a true celebration of the region’s cultural heritage, capturing the
essence of its people and their way of life. Mexico’s Huasteca region and music brim with
energy and charm; this vibrant region’s richness is reflected in its music, where the
jarana, violin, and guitarra huapanguera narrate both ancestral tales and everyday
experiences.

The poetic stories sung by the three huapangueros use the traditional falsetto, a technique that is very common in the genre. Zorzal is led by César Puente on jarana, Fátima Hernández on violin, and Pablo Suaste on guitarra huapanguera. The trio completed their first international tour across Spain, France, and Belgium in 2025.
