Amsterdam is a city where cultures meet, and that’s exactly what happened when Jetse de Jong (NL) and Lucas Figueiredo Santana (Brazil) ran into each other at the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2015. They quickly recognized in each other their admiration for the same kinds of music. Not long after that they started to perform together in numerous combinations, from duo to nonet.
Combining a jazz group and a string quartet, Jetse and Lucas will perform together with their friends a unique program in Teatro Munganga.
Expect musical ingredients from Brazil mixed with elements of Jazz and Classical music. It will be an evening full of surprises and beautiful moments.
Special guest of the night: Lilian Vieira
Jetse
Jetse de Jong is a Dutch pianist and composer based in Amsterdam. He did a bachelor course in jazz piano at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. While studying there he took part in a lot of recording sessions for film music and collaborated with students from the film music department. Besides film music he is also active as a jazzpianist.
Lucas
Versatility, energy and musicality define Lucas Figueiredo Santana, 1993. Saxophone player but also clarinet and flute reed section player, the young Brazilian musician based in Amsterdam has shown a unique way to express himself through music, crossing over the Brazilian samba-jazz, Bossa Nova and Choro with Jazz and contemporary European music.
Former student at Conservatorium van Amsterdam and living in Europe since 2015, Lucas had countless opportunities in which he could experience the apex of the music sharing stage with Miguel Zenón, Seamus Blake, Jasper Bloom, Alex Sipiagin, Dick Oatts, John Riley among others.
Lilian
The Brazilian-Dutch singer and lyric writer Lilian Vieira (September 11, 1966, Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro) presents herself with her Brazilian Samba Soul from the sixties and seventies. At age 23 she moved to The Netherlands, where she, due to her special timbre, great improvisation skills and charismatic stage presence develops as a noted singer. This is partly due to her role in the Brazilectro group Zuco 103. Vieira – primarily singing in Portuguese – also works with multiple jazz-, soul- and funkbands and various DJs. As a guest vocalist she collaborated on dozens of albums. The past years she has returned to her musical roots, with the singing of popular Brazilian music and classical acoustic Samba that eventually inspired her to record her own solo album.
