In 1980 Josee was the first singer in the Netherlands to devote herself entirely to Brazilian music. After her studies in Amsterdam and Brazil she taught at the conservatories of Amsterdam and Rotterdam and introduced the beauty of Brazilian music to her students. For quite some time now, she has focused on connecting Brazilian and Dutch music by having the lyrics of lyricist Lennaert Nijgh – her first husband – sound and shape in a Brazilian way.
Lennaert Nijgh wrote pop history together with Boudewijn de Groot with titles such as Verdronken vlinder (Drowned Butterfly) and Meneer de President.
Through her collaboration with Brazilian artists such as Dori Caymmi, Ivan Lins and João Bosco, Josee has got to know the most beautiful Brazilian music like no other.

In 1980 was Josee de eerste zangeres in Nederland die zich totaal toelegde op Braziliaanse muziek. Na haar studie in Brazilië gaf zij les aan de conservatoria van Amsterdam en Rotterdam en introduceerde de schoonheid van
Braziliaanse muziek aan haar studenten. Inmiddels legt zij zich al geruime tijd toe op het verbinden van Braziliaanse en Nederlandstalige muziek door de teksten van tekstdichter Lennaert Nijgh – haar eerste echtgenoot – op een
Braziliaanse manier te laten klinken en vorm te geven.
Lennaert Nijgh schreef samen met Boudewijn de Groot popgeschiedenis met titels als Verdronken vlinder en Meneer de President.
Door haar samenwerking met Braziliaanse grootheden als Dori Caymmi, Ivan Lins en João Bosco heeft Josee als geen ander de mooiste Braziliaanse muziek leren kennen.
