Sorrindo is an Amsterdam ensemble in a special, varied line-up. They play exclusively the music of Brazilian great Hermeto Pascoal.

Sorrindo sounds like a classical ensemble, a jazz big band and a samba orchestra. Hermeto's music draws a range of timbres from the orchestra.

'Sorrindo' is Portuguese for 'smiling'. We see this in the audience when we play, but also in ourselves!

On Sunday afternoon, 19 May, Sorrindo will present its second album: "Pipoca" with as special guest the great Brazilian musician Lucas Santana.

Lucas Santana
Versatility, energy and musicality define Lucas Figueiredo Santana, 1993. Saxophone player but also clarinet and flute player, the young Brazilian musician based in Amsterdam has shown a unique way to express himself through music, crossing over the Brazilian samba-jazz, Bossa Nova and Choro with Jazz.

Keep an Eye Records winner – 2020 and Downbeat Magazine winner on the Small Jazz Combo category, Lucas has been based in Europe since 2015 where he had countless opportunities in which he could experience the apex of the music, sharing the stage with many great musicians from the Brazilian, Jazz and pop scene.

Throughout his arrangements and compositions, he brings to life his deepest musical feelings and emotions, expressing it into several different musical settings from jazz trio to large ensembles.

Sorrindo is een Amsterdams ensemble in een bijzondere, gevarieerde bezetting. Ze spelen uitsluitend de muziek van de Braziliaanse grootheid Hermeto Pascoal.

Sorrindo klinkt als een klassiek ensemble, een jazz bigband en een samba orkest. De muziek van Hermeto haalt een waaier van klankkleuren uit het orkest.

‘Sorrindo’ is Portugees voor ‘glimlachend’. Dat zien we in het publiek als we spelen, maar ook bij onszelf!

Veelzijdigheid, energie en muzikaliteit kenmerken Lucas Figueiredo Santana, 1993. Saxofonist maar ook klarinet- en fluitspeler, de jonge Braziliaanse muzikant gevestigd in Amsterdam heeft een unieke manier laten zien om zichzelf uit te drukken door middel van muziek, waarbij hij de Braziliaanse samba-jazz, Bossa Nova en Choro kruist met Jazz.
Als winnaar van Keep an Eye Records - 2020 en Downbeat Magazine winnaar in de categorie Small Jazz Combo, is Lucas sinds 2015 gevestigd in Europa waar hij talloze kansen kreeg om het hoogtepunt van de muziek te ervaren en het podium te delen met vele grote muzikanten uit de Braziliaanse, jazz- en popscene.
In zijn arrangementen en composities brengt hij zijn diepste muzikale gevoelens en emoties tot leven, die hij uitdrukt in verschillende muzikale settings, van jazztrio tot grote ensembles.
