A concert by the Mirallas de Moraes duo is a journey through jazz, Brazilian and traditional Latin-American music. Isa and Daniel create a unique crossover in a close and intimate setting. The duo was formed one and a half years ago, when Isa and Daniel felt connected by their passion for Brazilian grooves, Cuban warmth, Mediterranian culture and jazz music. Since then, they have been developing their own sound and repertoire, where we hear all these influences melting in their own original music too.

Isa Mirallas
Raised in a musical family in Barcelona, Spain, Isa Mirallas can not recall a moment of her life in which music was not part of her daily life. She was surrounded by classical music from a very young age. She started her musical career playing the piano at the age of 7 and studied classical piano and classical voice in her home city.

After years dedicated to classical music, she felt like she needed a twist. She felt the urge to explore jazz and to develop in a personal style where Mediterranean and Latin influences play an important role. She moved to Amsterdam in 2012 to study jazz vocals. She received her jazz singing bachelor's degree in 2016 and her master’s degree in 2018 from the Conservatory of Amsterdam. In the past years she has performed with different ensambles and in some remarkable venues such as the Bimhuis (Amsterdam) or the Jamboree Jazz Club (Barcelona). Among others, one of her most important projects is the a cappella group The Junction, with which she actively tours and performs in theatres and venues around Europe and Asia. Since 2018, she is teaching vocal technique at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

Daniel de Moraes
Born into a musical family in the Uruguayan capital of Montevideo, guitarist Daniel de Moraes Aguilar was exposed to a wide range of music from a young age. He spent his childhood in Cuba, where he started playing classical guitar and was surrounded by Cuban music. Returning to Uruguay at the age of fifteen, Daniel started to study the electric guitar and discover the music of his own country. Candombe and Tango became his main musical focus, as well as Brazilian music and jazz. His father, a well-known classical guitarist and song-writer in Uruguay, introduced him to the vibrant music scene.

He played, recorded and toured with many prominent Uruguayan artists such as Ruben Rada (Grammy winner 2011) and Jorge Drexler (Oscar winner 2005). Through working with these artists, he also had the opportunity to play and record with world-renowned artists such as Fito Paez and Pedro Aznar (Argentina), Ketama (Spain), Alcione (Brasil) and Hiram Bullock (USA). Daniel s long-term fascination for jazz and curiosity to search for new sounds led him to ́ move to the Netherlands to study at the prestigious Conservatory of Amsterdam, graduating in 2013 with a Masters in Jazz Performance. He has been privileged enough to record and tour with some of the top musicians in the Netherlands; Eric Vloeimans, Toon Roos, Karel Boehlee, as well as vocalists Lilian Vieira, Deborah Carter and Josee Koning. He has toured with internationally acclaimed Brazilian artist Ivan Lins (two-time Latin Grammy winner 2005), Fernando Lameirinhas and Mafalda Anauth. Besides his work as a sideman, Daniel leads his own trio. His music combines textures of Latin American music with the sounds of contemporary jazz.
