Guinga is one of the great composers of contemporary Brazilian song. Born in the Zona Norte of Rio de Janeiro, he began his career accompanying Cartola and Clara Nunes — and went on to build a compositional language that spans choro and modinha, samba and baião, jazz and classical music. Simultaneously intuitive and sophisticated, deeply Brazilian and cosmopolitan, his music is unmistakably his own. His compositions have been recorded by Elis Regina, Chico Buarque, Esperanza Spalding, Michel Legrand, among many others.
Anna Paes is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Rio de Janeiro, with a doctorate in Music from UFRJ and a long career dedicated to Brazilian song. An award-winning artist whose compositions have been recorded by Guinga himself, Mônica Salmaso, and Gabriele Mirabassi, she has been one of Guinga's closest musical partners for over a decade — a collaboration that produced two albums centred on his repertoire.
Their two collaborative albums — Você Você (Kuarup, 2022) and Julieta no Convés (Kuarup, 2024) — are the heart of this concert: an intimate dialogue of voice and guitar, precise and deeply Brazilian.
This concert is part of the European tour Brasil-Europa Circular, supported by the Programa Funarte Brasil Conexões Internacionais.
