Amarea is formed in 2021 when long time music peers and CvA alumni Chaerin Im, Matteo Mazzù and Eloi Pascual-Nogué start getting together in trio, one of the most fluid and intimate but also raw band settings, driven by their common interest in reaching deeper, more personal ways of improvisation and communication through music.

This was happening at the same time as Eloi was focused in writing a lot of music aiming to find different ways of providing a sense of song (as opposed to a more abstract collective improvisation) and experimenting with boundaries such as form, motivic development, character, etc. while leaving as much freedom as possible for the musicians to take over and bring to the table their own personal impression and relationship to the material.

The open minds of the three young but experienced musicians allowed all their stylistically diverse backgrounds, knowledge and meticulous craft to bloom in the most natural way, resulting not only in an original style but a very personal process of making music that will only be possible with the combination of these three brains.
