A tribute to Charles Aznavour

A year after the death of Charles Aznavour, French/Armenian  actor, song writer and singer, Daniel Roval commemorates the life of this world popular artist, and with whom he feels closely related as a son of a migrant artist family himself.
Throughout this theatrical and poetic musical performance with photo projections, spoken texts, short interviews, film fragments, and some of the best of Aznavour’s songs, Daniel Rovai takes us on the path of the young Charles, in the miserable attics rooms of starving artists, on the trail of traveling shows with their colourful tents and trucks, or on the streets of Paris in August for a tearful lost love story.

For this he is accompanied by four talented musicians with whom he has worked on various project over many years: Stanley Haywood (Keyboard, clarinet), Lorand Sarna (Guitar, Bass guitar), Jim Sernesky (Percussions, trumpet))
‘Formidable Aznavour’ is set on the stage of our small music theatre. But you will feel the old Paris all around you with its street lamps, smoky bars and endless staircases. Add to it a  nice drink, a lots of imagination, and the show can start.

For a large part of his life, Daniel Rovai has travelled throughout Europe as an actor and singer with various international touring companies such as The Footsbarn Theatre, and music/theatre groups. He has performed at numerous popular festivals as well with his solos or groups that he formed, such as ‘The Barneys’, and like Aznavour has also got a record as a television and film actor.
Having been based in France, then the UK and now in the Netherlands, he has travelled Europe and a good part of the world, and for this he has become a truly European artist and actor.
