The multifaceted artist Micaela Chauque is part of a new generation of musicians who break into ethnic and folk music in the new millennium. She was born in the indigenous community of Kolla “Finca Santiago” in the department of Iruya in Northern Argentina.
Micaela Chauque is considered the best quenista in northern Argentina.

At the age of 11 she left the community to attend high school in Salta, at the age of 18 she began to study music and folk dances at the Graduate Institute of Art (IUNA) in Buenos Aires. In 2001 she played her first concerts in Europe, accompaning the charangisto Jaime Torre on a tour to England, Spain and Norway. Currently lives and produces his music in Tilcara (Jujuy) and Buenos Aires.
She is one of the most famous representatives of idigenous music in Argentina. Micaela acted on several occasions in the “Festival of Folklore of Cosquín”, Córdoba. She plays with folklorist musicians of southern Argentine just as being member of the rock band “Divididos” in Buenos Aires and Global Bass so demonstrates the ductility as an instrumentalist, singer and songwriter, always carrying his ancestral heritage. During 2012 she realized tours throughout Australia and Peru, receiving in Lima the recognition as “Maestra de Quena” – first women ever in the world.
At the end of 2012, she received the “Jorge Cafrune Award” for best instrumental soloist within the province of Jujuy, Argentina. Micaela also promotes workshops and recitals in public schools within the country thus rescuing and strengthening the wealth of regional cultures to children. At the moment Micaela is producing his new album “Jallalla!” to be presented in May and June in Argentina.
Until now she published two CDs as a Soloist: one in 2003 with the group “Quebrada Instrumental” and one in 2008 “Micaela Chauque, flutes and sikus LIVE”. He has also participated in a lot of albums with other artists of folk, rock, traditional indigenous music – some of them has wone national awards (Gold Prize and Carlos Gardel FNA) Micaela Chauques music has been accented by the most important media of Argentina. Interviews and reviews in the newspapers Clarín, La Nación, Tiempo Argentino, Tribune, Pregón, Diario Uno, La Gazetta, Rolling Stone Magazine, Viva and also in foreign media like BBC (UK) and in medias in Australia. Micaela Chauque is considered the best quenista in northern Argentina.
Los sonidos eclécticos de Micaela Chauque
La multifacética artista Micaela Chauque forma parte de la nueva generación de músicos que irrumpe en la música popular en este nuevo milenio. Micaela actuó en varias oportunidades en el reconocido mundialmente Festival de Folklore de Cosquín, Córdoba. Ella puede acompañar a un folklorista del sur de nuestro país, a una coplera de Salta, Global Bass y a una Banda de rock como Divididos, asi demuestra la ductilidad de nuestra instrumentista, cantante, coplera y compositora.
Durante el 2012 al 2015 realizó Gira por Australia, Inglaterra, Holanda, España, Italia, Perú y Bolivia. Es Licenciada en Folklore Argentino. También Micaela promueve talleres y recitales en las escuelas públicas del interior del país rescatando, y fortaleciendo las riquezas de las culturas regionales a los niños. Actualmente reside y produce su música en Tilcara (Jujuy) y Buenos Aires. Acompañó al charanguista Jaime Torres (interprete de la original Misa Criolla), realizó gira por Inglaterra, España y Noruega.
Tiene dos CD Solista : Micaela Chauque & grupo “Instrumental de la Quebrada” (2003) y En vivo: Micaela Chauque, quenas y sikus (2008). Disponibles en Spotify. Además ha participado en una gran cantidad de discos con otros artistas del folklore, el Rock, música tradicional indígena, con premios nacionales ( Carlos Gardel de Oro y FNA). Recien ha producido su nuevo disco titulado ¡JALLALLA! con diez temas cantados e instrumentales. Iniciando su etapa como productora artística.
La música de Micaela Chauque ha sido relevada por los medios más importantes de la Argentina. Entrevistas y reseñas en Diarios Clarín, La Nación, Tiempo Argentino; Tribuno, Pregón, Diario Uno, La Gaceta, Revistas Rolling Stone , Viva pero también en medios extranjeros como BBC (UK), Radio Vaticana (Estado del Vaticano, Italia) y Australia.
