The musical and reading performance Notturno Americano is a trip to America of the early 20th century through the visionary look of Emanuel Carnevali, the writer who more than anybody else deeply plunged into the obscure areas of the glittering overseas cities.

Carnevali left behind Italy and his hometown Bologna for the United States where he was soon praised as a writer by the avant-garde circles of the time – from Ezra Pound to Sherwood Anderson – but remained largely unknown to the general public, despite his undisputed literary value. Emigration, poverty and hard work, the untrue American myth, homesickness towards Italy, are the central themes of his poems and writings.
Notturno Americano makes use of the reconstruction of Carnevali’s life based on Emidio Clementi's novel The Last God (L'Ultimo Dio), and represents a further tribute to a forgotten son, pending between two countries and two different cultures, both of which have never stopped flirting and colliding with each other.

Emidio Clementi is a musician and lyricist, founder of the Italian cult band Massimo Volume, and a writer, author of several novels and short stories.
Corrado Nuccini is founder, guitar and voice of the Italian post-rock band Giardini di Miro'.
Emanuele Reverberi is a multi-instrumentalist. He plays violin and trumpet in the band Giardini di Miro'.

Notturno Americano é uma viagem à América do Norte do início do século XX através dos olhos visionários de Emanuel Carnevali, escritor que mais do que qualquer outro mergulhou nos lugares obscuros das cintilantes metrópoles ultramarinas.

Falso mito americano
Deixados para trás Bologna e a Itália, seu país natal, Carnevali foi em todos os sentidos um escritor do idioma Inglês, elogiado pela vanguarda da época — de Ezra Pound a Sherwood Anderson —, mas desconhecido do grande público, apesar de seu valor literário inquestionável. A emigração, a pobreza e o trabalho duro, o falso mito americano, a saudade da Itália, são os temas centrais do seu trabalho e do show dedicado a ele.

Notturno Americano usa uma reconstrução poética da vida de Carnevali realizada por Emidio Clementi em seu romance 'O último deus' ('L'ultimo dio') e representa mais uma homenagem a um filho esquecido, suspenso entre dois continentes e duas culturas, que nunca deixaram de flertar e colidir uma com a outra.

Emidio Clementi, escritor e músico, é o autor de vários romances e coletâneas de contos, além de ser vocalista e baixista da banda cult Massimo Volume. Corrado Nuccini é fundador, guitarrista e vocalista da banda de post-rock Giardini di Miró. Emanuele Reverberi é multi-instrumentista. Toca trompete e violino na banda Giardini di Miró.
