This Roda de Samba of April will have a special theme because 2 years ago in Brazil it was decreed as the “Samba Woman Day”.
April 13th is the date of birth of the great Dona Ivone Lara. Her life and trajectory in samba represents the resistance of the woman, the black woman as a composer and director in a universe historically dominated by men.
Due to last year's success in Munganga Theater, we will repeat this special edition in 2020 as well.
The official 'Samba Woman Day' is April 13th, but we are celebrating Saturday 18th.
Roda de Samba is one of the most popular manifestations in Brazil, where musicians gather around a table and begin to play and sing. It’s something spontaneous, joyful and contagious that has already become popular in Europe. Roda de Samba is commonly seen in Rio de Janeiro in neighborhoods such as downtown, Lapa, and also in the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, in some cities of southern Brazil, and the Rodas de samba of Bahia and the north.
