Durante todo o dia 30 de outubro, milhares de brasileiros, que vivem na Holanda, estarão em Amsterdam para votarem em seus candidatos para a presidência do Brasil. Um momento de vigília e esperança na democracia brasileira.
Após votar, venha assistir ao lançamento do livro “Os motéis e o poder”, com a presença de Ciça Guedes, um dos autores.
Uma tarde pela democracia e cultura no Brasil. Logo após o evento, vigilia democrática onde vamos projetar ao vivo a contagem dos votos do segundo turno das eleições brasileiras.
O Livro
Poucas obras investigam o uso da temática moral na construção do apoio que grande parte da sociedade deu à ditadura militar (1964-1985). O discurso dos costumes, a “defesa da família”, foi determinante para a sustentação do regime, recurso que o capitão do Exército, Jair Bolsonaro, também usou na campanha eleitoral de 2018 e continua a utilizar quando precisa angariar apoio popular a seu governo.
O livro “Os Motéis e o poder”, dos jornalistas Ciça Guedes e Murilo Fiúza de Melo, expõe as contradições desse discurso. Revela que a ditadura foi a grande patrocinadora de um dos espaços mais simbólicos para a prática do sexo livre no Brasil: os motéis. Ciça estará conosco para a leitura de trechos do livro e um debate a seguir.
No espaço público, os generais controlavam a sociedade com mão de ferro, mas, nos motéis, tudo era permitido. Adultério, ménage a trois, orgias, homossexualidade, consumo de drogas ilícitas e de pornografia eram tolerados desde que não comprometessem a discrição necessária ao negócio. Negócio, aliás, que muito serviu aos militares.
O cerceamento aos costumes durante a ditadura militar proibia a exposição da nudez, as conversas sobre sexo, cabelos longos para os homens, saias curtas e decotes para as mulheres e, principalmente, negava a liberdade aos compositores da Música Popular Brasileira.
Para completar o evento, o quarteto Romy Martinez – vocal, Nelson Latif e Kees Gelderblom – violão e Alaor Soares – percussão, apresentará músicas de Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, entre outros censuradas pela ditadura militar.

During the whole day on the 30th of October thousands of Brazilians, who live in the Netherlands, will be in Amsterdam to vote for their candidates for the presidency of Brazil. A moment of vigil and hope in the Brazilian democracy.

Few works investigate the use of the moral theme in the construction of the support that a large part of society gave to the military dictatorship (1964-1985).
The discourse of customs, the “defence of the family”, was decisive in sustaining the regime, a resource that Army Captain Jair Bolsonaro also used in the 2018 election campaign and continues to use when he needs to garner popular support for his government.
The book “The Motels and Power”, by journalists Ciça Guedes and Murilo Fiúza de Melo, exposes the contradictions of this discourse. It reveals that the dictatorship was the great sponsor of one of the most symbolic spaces for the practice of free sex in Brazil: the motels. Ciça will be with us for a reading of excerpts from the book and a debate to follow.
In the public space, the generals controlled society with an iron fist, but in the motels, everything was allowed. Adultery, orgies, homosexuality, consumption of illicit drugs and pornography were tolerated as long as they did not compromise the discretion necessary for the business. Business, by the way, that served the military well.
The curtailment of customs during the military dictatorship prohibited the exposure of nudity, conversations about sex, long hair for men, short skirts and necklines for women and, especially, denied freedom to the composers of Brazilian Popular Music.
To complete the event, the quartet Romy Martinez – vocals, Nelson Latif and Kees Gelderblom – guitar and Alaor Soares – percussion, will present songs by Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Milton Nascimento, Edu Lobo, among others censored by the military dictatorship.
