Trio dos Anciões was founded in February 2020 by Floris van Elderen, inspired by the musical thrust of the Brazilian Samba-Jazz Trio’s from the 60’s.
The Milton Banana Trio and the Zimbo Trio were Floris van Elderen’s first major inspirations to dive into the extensive tradition of Brazilian music, getting to the root of it as much as possible.
Trio dos Anciões wants to conserve the raw energy and dynamics of yore, while at the same time aiming for a contemporary sound using an electric instrumentation.
In the arrangements the trio tries to incorporate traditional Brazilian rhythmic elements as templates for improvisation, derived from (Afro-)Brazilian traditions such as Samba, Forró, Maracatu, Jongo and Ijexá.

For this special occasion Trio dos Anciões will invite the Japanese Latin-Jazz singer Waka. She is a jazz singer from the most unlikely of backgrounds.
She was born in the heart of the city of Tokyo, but moved to the Netherlands to study Jazz Voice at Utrecht Conservatory where she graduated with honor in 2019.
With her uniquely captivating voice that is organic and warm, she enchants her audience with old American songbook classics to powerful Brazilian music.
She has sung in numerous festivals such as Utrecht Jazz festival, Jazz on the Sofa Festival, Middelheim Jazz festival, North Sea Jazz festival, SAGA SEA festival, Sapporo City Jazz Festival, and venues like TivoliVredenburg and JZ
Brat SOUND OF TOKYO.
