For the first time together the Brazilian pianist Elizabeth Fadel and the Dutch pianist Mike del Ferro promise a memorable and inspiring Sunday afternoon at Munganga’s stage. Improvisation, criativity and virtuosism have always been the trade mark of those two artists. They both have a broad approach towards music, and they had similar musical backgrounds (Mike had previously contact with classical music, so as Elizabeth had contact with jazz). On sunday you can hear those two great pianists performing own compositions, jazz and Brazilian music in a very curious, intense and interesting way.
Elizabeth Fadel, born in Brazil, moved to the Netherlands at the age of 25 and completed her bachelor harpsichord at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. She teaches, tours and records in Europe and Brazil and specialises in the free crossover between genres. More information about the pianist can be found on her website: www.elizabethfadel.com.
International Award winning Pianist / Composer Mike del Ferro was born in Amsterdam. His father was opera singer Leonard del Ferro who sang and recorded with Maria Callas and Leonard Bernstein. He started studying classical piano at the age of nine and after falling in love with Jazz he pursued his studies on Jazz and received a Master in Contemporary Music at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Mike has travelled the world extensively (so far 117 countries), searching for collaborations with musicians from cultures quite different to his own, and the musical results have been eye-opening, building musical bridges between cultures not normally within reach of each other. He has managed to combine elements of the revered canons of Western music interspersed with the audacity of Jazz improvisation, and paying tribute to the ancient structures of Asian, South American and African traditional music. www.mikedelferro.com
