Alain en Ester speelden eerder samen in de groep los Dolores. Na een aantal jaren pauze hebben zij elkaar weer gevonden. Inmiddels spelen zij een repertoire dat zich uitstrekt over de halve wereld. Van uitbundige Flamenco, Portugese fado, geestige Mexicaanse liedjes, Argentijnse Zamba tot zwoele Son Cubano.
Ester: “ik houd ontzettend van Alains’ gitaarspel! Hij is niet alleen een begenadigd flamenco gitarist, maar speelt net zo makkelijk andere genres. Onze passie voor deze zo diverse muziekstijlen komt tot leven in de studio en wordt magisch wanneer gespeelt voor publiek”.
Alain over Ester: “Vanaf de eerste keer dat ik Ester hoorde zingen was ik verliefd op haar stem. Zuiver, mooi, en met een lach erin. Ik word er altijd vrolijk van. Er zijn sowieso maar weinig zangers in Nederland die accentloos Spaans kunnen zingen. Zij spreekt de taal vloeiend en dat hoor je. Ook aan de interpretatie. Ze weet wat ze zingt en vertolkt dat ook echt. Ook haar Braziliaanse bossa’s en Portugese Fado’s zijn geweldig”.
Alain Labrie geboren in Toulon, Zuid-Frankrijk groeide op in Nederland waar hij met 9 jaar begon met piano spelen. De liefde voor de gitaar won het van de piano en vanaf zijn 12 jaar jaar speelde hij elektrisch gitaar in diverse bands. Op zijn 21e kwam hij in aanraking met Flamencogitaar en volgde masterclasses bij onder andere Paco Peña in Cordoba en Carlos Heredia in Sevilla.
Met de Franstalige flamenco/pop band Les Charmeurs geïnspireerd door het Franse lied, de Patchanka en andere mediterrane stijlen, wierf hij bekendheid, toerde door binnen- en buitenland en was regelmatig te horen op radio en tv. Met de band Luzazul (fado/flamenco/jazz) en da Gaia (flamenco/fado/latin toerde hij door vele theaters in Nederland. Alain speelde ook met Los Dolores waarin hij 3 extravagante zangeressen begeleide met meerstemmig Spaanstalige liedjes.
Met zijn eigen flamenco band Labryenco, een mix van flamencogitaar, percussie, fretloze bas, viool, flamenco vocalen en dans, gaat Alain terug naar zijn flamenco roots. Voor Labryenco schrijft hij alle composities zelf en heeft twee cd’s uitgebracht: Calle Ventana en La Penúltima, die beiden lovende recensies ontvingen. Momenteel legt hij de laatste hand aan een nieuwe CD waarop ook de legendarische Jorge Pardo meespeelt.
Sinds 2001 heeft Alain zijn eigen studio www.studiolabrie.nl waar hij als producent en technicus muziek heeft opgenomen van onder andere: John Fillmore quartet, Labryenco, Los Dolores, da Gaia, Basily gipsy band, Marius Preda, Basily boys, KarenB, Banty Holler, Finvarra en meer. Momenteel treedt Alain op met zangeres Ester Veldhuis.

Ester Veldhuis groeide op met gospel, blues, jazz en rock, en vond de kracht van haar stem in een Flamencokoor in haar geboortestad Amsterdam. Ze zong op grote hoogten in La Paz, Bolivia tot de Birmese jungle. Ze was een van de oprichters van de band Atajo in Bolivia, zong als gastzangeres op de Cd’s van diverse Boliviaanse bands en werd in 1997 gekroond tot zangeres van het jaar.
Met Los Dolores bracht Ester een repertoire van poëtische, ingetogen en uitbundige liederen in het Spaans en ze namen twee Cd’s op. Esters passie voor Spaantalige muziek kwam verder tot leven in het muzikale trio Golondrinas. Ze reisde naar de bakermat van Argentijnse folklore op zoek naar de roots van deze rijke muzikale traditie. Ze zong in de Peñas van Salta, vierde carnaval in Humahuaca aan de voet van de Andes en speelde in Buenos Aires met de legendarische gitarist Juan Falú. In 2020 ontmoette Ester in Frankrijk de klassieke gitarist Luis Alberto Soría. Ze namen het album Sueños y Colores op en toerde met hem en een virtuoos muzikaal gezelschap door Spanje en Frankrijk. Momenteel geeft Ester privé zangles, organiseert zangweken op inspirerende plekken in binnen-en buitenland en treedt op met flamencogitarist Alain Labrie.

Estér Veldhuis and Alain Labrie play beautiful, fiery and sensitive Spanish- and Portuguese-language songs. Bring a handkerchief to the concert because this will really come in.
Alain and Ester previously played together in the group los Dolores. After a few years’ break, they found each other again. They now play a repertoire that spans half the world. From exuberant Flamenco, Portuguese fado, witty Mexican songs, Argentinean Zamba to sultry Son Cubano.

Alain on Ester: ‘From the first time I heard Ester sing, I fell in love with her voice. Pure, beautiful, and with a smile in it. It always makes me happy. In any case, there are few singers in the Netherlands who can sing Spanish without an accent. She speaks the language fluently and you can hear that. Also in the interpretation. She knows what she is singing and really interprets it. Her Brazilian bossas and Portuguese Fado are also great”.

With the French-speaking flamenco/pop band Les Charmeurs inspired by French song, Patchanka and other Mediterranean styles, he gained fame, toured at home and abroad and was regularly heard on radio and TV. With the band Luzazul (fado/flamenco/jazz) and da Gaia (flamenco/fado/latin), he toured many theatres in the Netherlands. Alain also played with Los Dolores in which he accompanied 3 extravagant singers with polyphonic Spanish songs.
With his own flamenco band Labryenco, a mix of flamenco guitar, percussion, fretless bass, violin, flamenco vocals and dance, Alain goes back to his flamenco roots. For Labryenco, he writes all the compositions himself and has released two CDs: Calle Ventana and La Penúltima, both of which received rave reviews. He is currently finalising a new CD on which the legendary Jorge Pardo also plays.

Ester Veldhuis grew up singing gospel, blues, jazz and rock, and found the power of her voice in a Flamenco choir in her native Amsterdam. She sang at high altitudes in La Paz, Bolivia to the Burmese jungle. She was a founding member of the band Atajo in Bolivia, sang as a guest singer on the CDs of several Bolivian bands and was crowned singer of the year in 1997.
With Los Dolores, Ester performed a repertoire of poetic, subdued and exuberant songs in Spanish and they recorded two CDs. Ester’s passion for Spanish-language music further came to life in the musical trio Golondrinas.
She travelled to the cradle of Argentine folklore in search of the roots of this rich musical tradition. She sang in the Peñas of Salta, celebrated carnival in Humahuaca at the foot of the Andes and played in Buenos Aires with legendary guitarist Juan Falú.
In 2020, Ester met classical guitarist Luis Alberto Soría in France. They recorded the album Sueños y Colores and toured Spain and France with him and a virtuoso musical ensemble. Currently, Ester gives private singing lessons, organises singing weeks in inspiring places at home and abroad and performs with flamenco guitarist Alain Labrie.
