The duo formed by Paulo Bellinati and Cleyton Fernandes is the result of an intense partnership in recent years. Cleyton Fernandes is one of the most important specialists in
the Bellinati’s works, having presented and recorded Afro-Sambas, Suite Contatos and unpublished works.
Paulo Bellinati has worked with several guitar duos in recent years expanding the reach of his work to consecrated chamber music for guitar.
The duo presents a show with great successes from Bellinati such as Jongo and Pingue-Pongue, some of the classic Afro-sambas such as Consolação and Canto de Xangô, as
well as classics from the Brazilian guitar music.
Paulo Bellinati is one of Brazil's most accomplished sort-after contemporary guitarist, composer, arranger and also a respected music scholar. He rediscovered, transcribed and
recorded the music of the great Brazilian guitarist-composer Annibal Augusto Sardinha (Garoto). He has won numerous awards including 1994 Prêmio Sharp Awards (Brazilian
Grammy) as best arranger for Gal Costa‘s CD “O Sorriso do Gato de Alice”. Two years later his albums “Lira Brasileira”, and “Afro-Sambas” were also nominated as best soloist
and best recording respectively.
Guitar Player magazine nominated him as one of the top 10 Brazilian guitarists. His “The Guitar Works of Garoto”(GSP) and “Guitares du Brésil”(GHA) albums received a 5-star
rating from the publications “CD REVIEW’ and “LE CHOC DE LA MUSIQUE” (highest award from prestigious “Le Monde da la Musique” in France) respectively.
In 1988, Paulo Bellinati won the first prize in composition for his solo guitar piece “Jongo”, at the 8th Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare in Martinique. In 1996, John Williams & Timothy
Kain recorded “Jongo” for their album "The Mantis and the Moon".
In 1998 Paulo Bellinati recorded the “Brazilian Guitar Virtuoso Video” for Mel Bay Publications, performing and discussing his compositions. In 2003 Mel Bay released the
“Paulo Bellinati plays Antonio Carlos Jobim” DVD, which includes Paulo's arrangements of some of the masterpieces by the great Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim.
In 2016, the Brasil Guitar Duo and the DELAWARE SYMPHONIC ORCHESTRA, conducted by Maestro David Amado, recorded the album “The Book of Signs” (Naxos),
premiering Paulo Bellinati’s Concerto Caboclo for two guitars and orchestra. The CD was nominated for the Grammy Latino as best Classical Music recording.
In 2018 was launched another two guitars album: “XODÓS” in duo with Marco Pereira.
Cleyton Fernandes is PhD in Musical performance/guitar and guitar teacher at UFCA University - Brazil. He started his guitar studies in 1982 and had the opportunity to
participate in several Master-Classes and Festivals in Brazil and abroad.
He performed in groups like "Arabesque" and “Tarab" among others. Between 2007 and 2011 he also worked as musician, arranger and producer in the Palanco Group specialized
in theater soundtrack. In chamber music he developed duo with the singer Thalita Savordelli, dedicated to the Afro-Sambas project. In 2017, he toured in the cities of Madrid, Paris, Amsterdam (Munganga Theater),
Brussels and Lyon - Europe and Sydney - Australia.
Nowadays, in addition to his teaching and concert activities, he is engaged in research on guitar lutherie.
