Emilio Martins and Mario Bakuna invite the audience for a special World Music night, plenty of interpretations of the greatest Brazilian composers and original compositions.

Emilio Martins is a drummer and percussionist from Brazil who began his music studies when he was only 8 years old in his hometown São Carlos.

He developed his research around World Music exploring different ways to think about rhythm, mixing his knowledge of Brazilian music with African grooves, Indian grooves and North american grooves.

Throughout his career, Emilio has performed alongside many famous artists such as Luís Melodia, Fafá de Belém, Dom Salvador, Tânia Alves, Mawaca group, Orquestra Mundana, Luiza Possi, Lecí Brandão, Daúde, Tavito, Paulo Moura, Orquestra Jazz Sinfônica, David Liebman, just to name a few. He has just recorded the new album of the Brazilian pianist and singer Eliane Elias, who won for two times the Latin Grammy Award of Best Latin Jazz Album in 2016 and 2017.

Nowadays, Emilio is touring around the world with his most recent show ENTREMUNDOS, as well as delivering workshops of Brazilian Music as sponsored musician by the Brazilian percussion brand "Contemporânea" .

Mario Bakuna is a London-based Brazilian composer, singer and guitar player, with over fiftteen years of professional experience. He is a graduate of the Free University of Music in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Whilst there he studied with musicians such as: Olmir Stocker, Roberto Sion and Roberto Bomilcar (pianist who played with Frank Sinatra during his visit to Brazil).
Mario has worked alongside the trombonist Itacir Bocato, guitarist Renato Consorte, and other big names from the São Paulo music scene.

His study focuses on Afro-Brazilian music, Jazz and Bossa Nova. In addition to developing new arrangements of music by enshrined Brazilian artists as Tom Jobim, Paulo Moura, and João Donato, in recent years he has been focussing to reinterpretations of Samba Jazz - a music that emerged in Rio de Janeiro in the 50s and was pioneered by musicians like Luiz Eça, Tamba Trio, Edson Machado, among others. Their repertoire was based on Brazilian standards with more sophisticated harmonies, inspired on the post-Bossa Nova movement.

Recently, he travelled to Europe to expand his research, and since moving to London, he has been performing alongside musicians such as: Jean Toussaint, Liam Noble, Roberto Manzin, Ricardo dos Santos, Edmundo Carneiro, Cacau Queiroz, Alain Jean Marie, Filó Machado, and Andrew McCormack.
