The group directed by pianist and composer Iara Gomes is the result of musical partnerships that began in 2010, and culminated in the release of the CD "Dois Cantos " in 2018, Iara ' s debut album.
“Dois Cantos”, released in August 2018 at Clube do Choro de Brasília, is the musician's debut album, praised by renowned conductor and jazz arranger John LaBarbera (Buddy Rich Big Band) and great pianist Fabio Torres (Trio Corrente).
Iara Gomes is a pianist, composer and arranger, born in Brasília, Brazil. She stands out for her original work and for her performance in the fields of Brazilian instrumental music and jazz. Winner of the “Best Instrumental Performer” award at the National FM Music Festival (2016) with her composition “Dois Cantos”, she was invited to be a judge at the next edition of the same festival (2017), and was a finalist for the Music Professionals Award. (2019), in the “arranging” category.
Iara holds a Master of Music degree: Jazz Composition & Arrangement and Jazz Piano Performance from the University of Louisville - UofL (USA, 2016), where she graduated with honors, becoming part of the Music Honor Society Pi Kappa Lambda. Also graduated in Music from the University of Brasilia - UnB, she is a professor at the Brasilia School of Music (CEP-EMB) approved in first place in the hiring process. In Brazil, the pianist completed her formal piano studies under the tutelage of Renato Vasconcellos, Elenice Maranesi (EMB).
She participated in several editions of the Brasilia International Summer Course (CIVEBRA), where she studied with great Brazilian (Leandro Braga, Fabio Torres, André Mehmari, Vittor Santos, Ian Guest) and American (Phil deGreg, Gary Dial, Mike Hamilton) jazz musicians. In the United States, she received regular guidance from professors John LaBarbera, Chris Fitzgerald, Amina Figarova, Ryan Cohen, and participated of clinics with David Liebman, Donny McCaslin, Chuck Owen, Alan Broadband, and others. As a pianist, she was part of major groups at the University of Louisville, such as Jazz I Big Band and International Jazz Combo, and worked as music director of the Brazilian Ensemble.
In 2015 she was awarded a scholarship to attend the renowned course “Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops”, under the tutelage of Jamey Aebersold, Andy Laverne, Dan Haerle and special guests such as Chris Potter. In recent years Iara has taken her work beyond the brazilian capital, playing at the Jazz Festival of La Plata (Argentina), at the Jazz Education Network conference (USA), and at Thelonious Casa de Jazz in Santiago (Chile), the first stop of the 2019 tour, which also included major Brazilian capitals, such as Goiânia, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, playing in renowned venues such as Jazz B, TribOZ and Sesc Consolação.
THANISE SILVA
Flutist and arranger. She studied at the Brasília School of Music, where she currently teaches, and at the University of Brasília. Thanise has been touring nationally and internationally with the group “Choro Pra Cinco”, having performed in Germany, Belgium, France and other European countries. In addition to the Iara Gomes Quartet, she is part of the “Fernando César e Regional” and “Trio Aretê”.
LUCAS FERNANDES
Bassist Lucas Fernandes has studied with musicians like Sizão Machado, Oswaldo Amorim, Jeff Andrews and Marco Panascia (NYC). He has performed in many renowned groups of Brasilia's music scene, also he has played in important festivals around Brazil and cities of France and Colombia. In addition to Iara Gomes Quarteto, he is part of the group "Funqquestra", "Trio Aretê" and "Trio Espiral".
FELIPE LEMOS
Born in Brasília DF, the drummer has studied at the Brasilia School of Music (DF), EMESP (SP), Souza Lima College (SP) and Berklee College of Music (USA), under the tutelage of Mark Walker, Bob Wyatt, Jason Tieman, Kiko Freitas, Rafael Barata, Sizão Machado, Guilherme Ribeiro, Daniel D'Alcântara, etc. He also accompanies Brazilian musicians such as Juninho Di Sousa, Daniel Castro, Flavinho Silva, Alberto Salgado, Iara Gomes, among others.
