Van 4-6 juni 2026 vindt voor het eerst het Composers Soundtracks Festival plaats in Nederland. De Braziliaanse componist, producent en oprichter van het festival Marcos Souza organiseede al succesvolle edities van het internationale filmmuziekfestival Musimagem in Brazilië. Het festival, brengt componisten, filmmakers en publiek samen.
Sinds 2015 hebben verschillende internationale componisten zoals Luis Ivars (Spanje), Laurence Rosenthal (VS), Bruno Coulais (Frankrijk), Christopher Young (VS), Bruce Broughton (VS), Rachel Portman (GB), Heitor Pereira (Brazilië/VS) deelgenomen aan het festival in Brazilië.

De volgende componisten hebben hun deelname aan de eerste Nederlandse editie bevestigd: Tim Rescala (Brazilië / Velho Chico), Alberto Rosenblit (Brazilië / Cabocla, Mad Maria), Mú Carvalho (Brazilië / Os Sete Gatinhos, Navalha na Carne), Marcos Souza (Brazilië / Betinho, a Esperança Equilibrista), Anselmo Mancini (Brazilië / Entre Raiz e Asas, Para Aqueles Que Nāo Verā…), Flavia Tygel (Brazilië / Torre Das Donzelas, My Drywall Cocoon), Marion Lemonnier (Frankrijk / Malvinas: O Diário de uma Guerra, The Quiet Diplomat), Matthijs Kieboom (Nederland / Wolf, Gooische vrouwen), Johan van der Voet (Nederland / De club van vijf, Het verhoor) en Ella van der Woude (Nederland / Alpha, Instinct).

De opening van CSF vindt plaats op donderdag 4 juni om in Lantaren Venster in Rotterdam. Om 20.00 uur wordt de bekroonde film Central do Brasil van Walter Salle vertoond met een live uitvoering van de filmscore door het CSF-strijkkwintet, Michael Rein (viool), Natália Ribeiro (viool), Francesca Wiersma (viola), Sebastiaan Halsema (cello), Louis van der Mespel (double bass), Tiago Lageira (gitaar) en onder leiding van pianist Anselmo Mancini. 

Op 5 en 6 juni worden er verschillende workshops, lezingen, masterclasses en paneldiscussies georganiseerd in Teatro Munganga in Amsterdam om het belang van filmcomponisten en hun werk onder de aandacht te brengen (bekijk het programma hieronder).
Internationale componisten en andere audiovisuele professionals komen tijdens deze activiteiten bij elkaar om hun expertise, ervaringen en de laatste innovatieve en technologische ontwikkelingen met elkaar en het publiek te delen. Deze uitwisseling van kennis heeft als doel de internationale samenwerking te versterken en de professionalisering en duurzaamheid van de werksituatie van filmmuziekcomponisten te bevorderen.

Daarnaast zullen er informatieve bijeenkomsten zijn over de uitdagingen die filmcomponisten in hun werk ondervinden, met gastsprekers uit de filmmuzieksector waaronder Giacomo Bonetti, European Affairs Officers verbonden aan de European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA) en Johan van der Voet, CEO van Soundgram Post Production en de Final Cue Music Library.

Het festival wordt afgesloten met een concert van het CSF Stringkwintet met filmscore van bekende componisten uit films zoals de recent met een Oscar® genomineerde The Secret Agent (Mateus Alves), Chocolat (Rachel Portman), Shrek (Harry Gregson Williams) en Little Miss Sunshine (Mychael Danna).

Het Composers Soundtracks Festival is opgericht door Marcos Souza, mede mogelijk gemaakt door Buma in Motion, ECSA en de Ambassade van Brazilië in Den Haag en is gesponsord door Embratur.

From 4 to 6 June 2026, the Composers Soundtracks Festival (CSF) will take place in the Netherlands for the first time. The festival was founded by Brazilian composer and producer Marcos Souza, who previously organized successful editions of the international film music festival Musimagem in Brazil. The event brings together composers, filmmakers, and audiences to celebrate the art of music for film and visual media.

Since 2015, several internationally renowned composers have participated in the festival in Brazil, including Luis Ivars (Spain), Laurence Rosenthal (USA), Bruno Coulais (France), Christopher Young (USA) Bruce Broughton (USA), Rachel Portman (UK), and Heitor Pereira (Brazil/USA).

The festival will open on Thursday 4 June at LantarenVenster. At 8:00 PM, the award-winning film Central Station by Walter Salles will be screened with a live performance of the filmscore by the CSF String Quintet, Michael Rein (violin), Natália Ribeiro (violin), Francesca Wiersma (viola), Sebastiaan Halsema (cello), Louis van der Mespel (double bass), Tiago Lageira (guitar) and musical director and pianist Anselmo Mancini.

On 5 and 6 June, a variety of workshops, lectures, masterclasses, and panel discussions will take place at Teatro Munganga. These sessions aim to highlight the importance of film composers and their work. International composers and audiovisual professionals will come together to share their expertise, experiences, and the latest creative, technological, and industry developments with each other and with the public. This exchange of knowledge seeks to strengthen international collaboration while supporting the professional development and sustainability of film composers’ careers.

The program will also include informative sessions addressing the challenges faced by film composers in their work. Guest speakers from the film music sector include Giacomo Bonetti, European Affairs Officer at the European Composer and Songwriter Alliance (ECSA), and Johan van der Voet, CEO of Soundgram Post Production and the Final Cue Music Library.

The festival will conclude with a concert by the CSF String Quintet featuring film music by renowned composers from films such as the recent Oscar®-nominated movie The Secret Agent (Mateus Alves), Chocolat (Rachel Portman), Shrek (Harry Gregson-Williams), and Little Miss Sunshine (Mychael Danna).
