After 28 years on the road, the duo Carol Andrade (vocals) and Alex Maia (guitar) presents a concert that invites the audience to glimpse behind the scenes of an artistic journey.

Art is an entity that has wandered through humanity since prehistoric times. Maybe art arrived on Earth before humans themselves. Perhaps it created them… Perhaps it is divine. Nobody knows its origins for sure, nor its exact shape or its whereabouts.
What we do know is that it reveals itself through each artist: this restless, skilled, playful, both extra and ordinary being, who devotes their life to a craft that is as rewarding as it is thankless.
Popular opinion often holds a misconception about artists: either they're seen as famous figures, detached from everyday life, or as broke, eccentric bohemians, out of touch with reality.
Between these two opposing views lies a vast and diverse group of artists who live like any other group of self-employed professionals: they discover their calling, study, hone their craft, create and develop their work — and, in order to survive, sell their labor. Yes, an artist is a worker. But not just that. As Ariano Suassuna said:

“Art for me is not a market product. You can call me romantic. Art for me is a mission, a calling and a party.”

The power of capital — which is also a kind of entity and often seems more alluring than art — tends to confuse people, distort values, and even corrupt artists. Still, even without the recognition and financial return they deserve, those who understand the revolutionary nature of art do not give up on fulfilling their role:

“Art is not purity but purification; art is not liberty, but liberation.” (Clarice Lispector)

In a world where individualism, indifference, exploitation, violence and fear prevail, every artist is a beacon of sensitivity lighting the path of humanity:

Art is the mirror that makes us more human.
With the desire to bring this mirror to the world, honoring artists of all fields and eras while sharing their own stories and perspectives, Carol Andrade and Alex Maia created the concert VIRAMUNDO: a performance featuring ten songs from popular Brazilian music which reflect on the life of the artist.

In the setlist, besides the title track by Gilberto Gil and Capinan, the duo presents original arrangements of works by Chico Buarque, Caetano Veloso, Joyce Moreno, Almir Sater and others. Each song portrays a scene of a music artist’s journey: awakening, experimentation, the relationship with the instrument, creation; shadow and light, stage and mission.

“I am Viramundo turned in the rounds of wonder, cutting knife and machete through the missteps of life”. Who is the lyrical I in this song?

The concert VIRAMUNDO is about this being - a free, lucid and playful soul, able to see that the king is naked, and who, by evoking the power of art, calls on the people to turn the world into “party, work and bread”.

Do alto dos seus 28 anos de carreira, o duo Carol Andrade (voz) e Alex Maia (violão) lança um show que vai mostrar ao público os bastidores de uma jornada artística.
A arte é uma entidade que perambula pela humanidade desde os tempos pré históricos.
Talvez ela tenha chegado antes dos seres humanos. Talvez ela os tenha criado… Talvez ela seja divina. Ninguém sabe ao certo sua origem, sua forma exata, nem seu paradeiro. O que se sabe é que ela se manifesta em cada artista: esse ser inquieto, habilidoso, brincante, extra e ordinário, que dedica sua vida a um ofício tão gratificante quanto ingrato.
No senso comum, há uma ideia bastante equivocada sobre os artistas: ou artista é quem é famoso, distante da realidade, ou artista é aquela pessoa "quebrada", boêmia, fora da realidade. Entre essas duas visões antagônicas, há uma enorme e diversa massa de artistas que vive como qualquer outro grupo de profissionais autônomos: descobrem sua vocação, estudam, se aprimoram, criam e desenvolvem
suas obras e, para sobreviver, vendem sua força de trabalho. Sim, artista é trabalhador. Mas não só. Como disse Ariano Suassuna:

"Arte pra mim não é produto de mercado. Podem me chamar de romântico. Arte pra mim é missão, vocação e festa."

A força do capital - que também é uma entidade e parece ser mais atrativa do que a arte - tende a confundir as pessoas, inverter valores e até corromper artistas. No entanto, mesmo sem o destaque e retorno financeiro merecidos, quem compreende o caráter revolucionário da arte não abre mão de cumprir o seu papel:

"Arte não é pureza, é purificação. Arte não é liberdade, é libertação.” (Clarice Lispector)

Num mundo onde o individualismo, a indiferença, a exploração, a violência e o medo predominam, todo artista é um farol de sensibilidade no caminho da humanidade:

"Quando a gente procura a arte é tão maravilhoso, porque sem saber e sem querer nós estamos procurando as coisas espirituais, aquilo que não tem peso, nem tempo, nem medida… Mas, que sem isso, a gente está regredindo a pura barbárie, nós nos tornaríamos bárbaros. (Adélia Prado)
