"A love note from a singer to Brazil" (Songlines).
Originally from a Polish family of musicians of mainly vocal tradition, Gabriela Kozyra has a beautiful album, recorded in Rio de Janeiro,
where she immersed herself in the rich world of music-makers, some of whom, including the extraordinary guitarist and composer Guinga, contributed to this project.
She invites us to discover her exquisite collection of unpublished treasures from the new Brazilian songbook.
"A Brazilian trip of the highest quality" to quote renowned Brazilian singer Monica Salmaso.
For this performance, besides presenting some songs from her album, Gabriela and the guitarist Walter Lopes will also do homage to several great Brazilian artists, among them:
Aldir Blanc - the lyricist known for song texts such as “O Bêbado e a equilibrista”, Elizeth Cardoso - the singer whose birthday centenary on 16th July we are celebrating this year,
João Gilberto - the guitarist and singer known as the father of Bossa Nova who passed away last year, Guinga - the contemporary composer who has been recorded by Elis Regina,
Mônica Salmaso and Sergio Mendes, who is celebrating his 70th birthday this year.
For more than 10 years Gabriela Kozyra has performed on the stages of European jazz festivals and jazz houses in London, where she lives. Gabriela graduated in jazz singing
from The Royal Conservatoire of the Hague and holds a Master's in Brazilian music from the Codarts Conservatoire in Rotterdam. In 2010, she lived in Rio de Janeiro and studied samba
at the Escola Portatil de Música. It is there she met many of the musicians and composers of the songs of her first album: Miguel Rabello Bastos, João Camarero, Luis Barcelos, Eduardo
Neves, João Sholl, Guinga, Anna Paes and the lyricists Paulo César Pinheiro, Vidal Assis, Mauro Aguiar and Renata Macedo.
