Gabriela Kozyra is a jazz and Brazilian music singer, composer and arranger who comes from a Polish family of musicians of mainly vocaltraditions.
In summer 2018, she recorded Noites Brasileiras, an independent album released in February 2019, which brings together 12 never published before compositions.
The Polish singer selected the repertoire especially for the album, in a mission of revealing hidden treasures of the new Brazilian songbook.
Gabriela is not a newcomer. Originally from a family of Polish musicians of mainly vocal tradition, for more than 10 years she has performed on the stages of European jazz festivals, among them North Sea Jazz Festival and
Jazz International Rotterdam, and jazz houses in London: The Crazy Coqs Cabaret at Zédel, Jazz in the Crypt and Embassy of Brazil. She also performed at Flipside Festival and appeared many times as a soloist at
Clube do Choro UK . She will make her debut at the London Jazz Festival in the autumn 2019.
Gabriela graduated in jazz singing from The Royal Conservatoire of the Hague and holds a master’s degree in Brazilian music from the Codarts Conservatoire in Rotterdam. In 2010, she had the opportunity to immerse
herself in the vast universe of Brazilian music when she lived in Rio de Janeiro and studied samba at the Escola Portatil de Música – where she met many of the musicians and composers of the songs of her first album:
Miguel Rabello Bastos, João Camarero, Luis Barcelos, Eduardo Neves, Guinga, Anna Paes and the lyricists Paulo César Pinheiro, Vidal Assis, Mauro Aguiar.
According to the renowned Brazilian singer Monica Salmaso, Gabriela presents a beautiful and mature work on an album that is “a Brazilian trip of the highest quality” where “exquisite songs of new and important
composers [are] treated as they should and sung with precision and much
The album, recorded between July and August of 2018 in Rio de Janeiro, counts with the participation of the composers themselves as arrangers and instrumentalists. Among them is the extraordinary guitarist and
composer Guinga and the arranger and guitarist with whom Gabriela normally collaborates in London, Luiz Morais. His elaborate arrangement can be heard in the song “Do Tempo” by João Sholl and Renata Macedo.
The reviews the album received:
“I was proud to see Brazil give a fruit to a CD like this, at a time when Brazil needs to understand itself, to recognize itself.” (Monica Salmaso, Brazilian singer, January 2019)
“A love note from a singer to Brazil” (Songlines Magazine, July 2019)
“With a playful flair accentuated by the clarinet sound of Rui Alvim and Aquiles Moraes’ trumpet, vigorous samba (Eduardo Neves and Mauro Aguiar) gives lightness to an album set in the sometimes dense atmosphere
of the Brazilian song that resists the pressure of the phonographic industry
“(Mauro Ferreira, G1, March 2019).
Brazilian 7-string guitarist, composer and arranger Luiz Morais is a unique voice in contemporary Brazilian Jazz guitar and a virtuoso performer.
Based in London since 2010, he leads the Luiz Morais Sextet, forging ahead in creating an innovative and experimental rebirth of the Brazilian musical tradition in a wider landscape of jazz and world music. The sextet has been selling out major London venues since 2014. Made up of the very best
musicians working with Brazilian Jazz in the UK, among them the vocalist
Gabriela Kozyra, the band focuses on playing Morais’s original repertoire which proposes a unique, innovative and experimental vision of Brazilian music through carefully crafted arrangements and vibrant improvisation.
Born in Fortaleza in the North-East of Brazil, immersed in vibrant Brazilian musical culture, Luiz Morais built his musical foundations playing rhythms such as Samba, Choro and Bossa Nova as well as the iconic North Eastern
rhythm of Forró.
Graduated in Brazilian Popular Music from the University of Rio de Janeiro (UNIRIO) in 2010, and completing his MA at Berklee College of Music in 2015, Luiz can count among his teachers great masters of Brazilian guitar
such as Mauricio Carrilho and Luis Otávio Braga as well as master Jazz saxophonist Perico Sambeat. Ever deepening his study of arrangement and composition, he is currently a student of the revered Brazilian arranger
Vittor Santos.

In 2013, he launched his first album ‘Nascente’ to critical acclaim in the UK, Brazil and Spain. ‘Nascente’ is a predominantly instrumental work that unites a wide range of flavours and influences, combining the most
powerful rhythmic roots of Brazilian popular music with the freshness and harmonic sophistication of jazz. These elements are markedly present in the arrangements, all written by Morais himself, resulting in an exuberant,
fine and original sound.
As duet, Luiz and Gabriela take you on an unusual and exciting musical journey through the rich depths of Brazilian music, presenting a sparkling repertoire ranging from classics of Samba and Bossa Nova to traditional
regional rhythms and flavours of the lesser-known genres of Frevo, Baião and Coco, as well their original work found on their albums “Noites Brasileiras” (Gabriela Kozyra) and “Nascente” (Luiz Morais).
